AAF International Unveils AstroScan® M, Groundbreaking Safety-First Air Filtration Testing System

02/12/2026

LOUISVILLE, Ky., November 11, 2025 AAF International, a member of the Daikin Group and global leader in air filtration solutions, introduces AstroScan® M, a groundbreaking testing system for high-efficiency air filtration containment systems that filters and contains potentially hazardous contaminants from air within buildings and other spaces without risk of human exposure.

AstroScan M is the first system of its kind in the advanced air filtration industry to completely isolate testing personnel from exposure during HEPA filtration validation for Bag In/Bag Out (BIBO) containment systems.

“While advanced filtration in containment units is critical to filtering out potentially dangerous contaminants, protecting individual health and safety during the process is paramount,” says Andrew Duncan, High Purity Filtration Product Manager. AAF International. “The AstroScan M is a simple, affordable, and specifiable option for BIBO containment systems and represents a breakthrough innovation for our industry.”

High-efficiency air filtration containment systems are designed to filter, contain, and isolate contaminants within a sealed housing and are used widely throughout biotechnology, compounding pharmacies, hospitals, laboratories, microelectronics, pharmaceutical fill finish, Homeland Security, Government, nuclear, and universities, to name a few.

Until now, manual scan filtration validation has been done with an actuation rod that penetrates the pressure boundary of the filter housing, potentially allowing contaminants to escape the housing, putting the tester at risk of direct exposure. With the patented AstroScan M system, the actuation rod is located outside of the pressure boundary of the filter housing with no penetration of the pressure boundary.

In addition, the only way to truly measure whether a filter is maintaining its effectiveness is through real-time testing while a system is fully running. Since AstroScan M eliminates the need to open the filter housing door for testing, system performance can be measured without any reduction of operational airflow, providing a more accurate measure of the filter’s effectiveness.

“AstroScan M provides accurate air filtration performance results that users can rely on for critical decisions,” continues Duncan. “When you combine that with the human safety factor, building owners and facility managers can trust that their systems are running optimally and safely.”

AstroScan M is manufactured and tested to the stringent requirements ASME N510 (Testing of Nuclear Air Treatment Systems), ASME AG-1 (Code on Nuclear Air Gas Treatment), and is manufactured in a facility that follows a strict Quality Assurance program in accordance with ASME NQA-1 (Quality Assurance Requirements for Nuclear Facility Applications). It also meets the requirements of the IEST-RP-CC0034, HEPA and ULPA Filter Leak tests.
